TOPIC: Cultivating Godly Culture of Faith Confession (Part 2)

TEXT: Mark 11:23-25, Hebrews 4:14, Proverbs 18:21

In our last study, we learned by the grace of God that the culture of faith confession comes as a result of consistent confession of God’s Word day and night until we naturally confess the Word in every circumstance (Joshua 1:8; Romans 10:8-10). Living faith is believing the Word of God and confessing with your mouth what you believe (2 Corinthians 4:13). Confession is agreeing with God in the heart enough to say what God says.

In today’s lesson, we shall consider confessing against sickness and diseases. The Lord bless words in our hearts in Jesus’ name.

Confessing Against Sickness: Origin of Sickness and Diseases

Sicknesses and diseases came from Satan, directly or indirectly, because Genesis 1:31 says, “God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.” God did not create man with infirmities. It is also important to stress that sickness and disease are spiritual in nature just as sin is; therefore, they must be handled spiritually the same way sin is handled (Ephesians 6:12; James 5:14-16).

The will of God concerning health (and healing) is first revealed in creation because nothing was created with infirmity.

Secondly, the Israelites walked through the wilderness for forty years, and not one of them was feeble as long as they walked in the commandments of God (Psalm 105:37; Exodus 15:26; Deuteronomy 7:15).

Thirdly, God revealed that it is His will to heal the sick by sending Jesus, who during His earthly ministry healed all who believed in Him. Healing was a major part of His earthly ministry (Matthew 4:23-24; Acts 10:38; Matthew 8:16-17).

Fourthly, God sent the Holy Ghost, and healing is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:9-11).

Most importantly, God revealed throughout both the Old and New Testaments that it is His will for us to live in health (3 John 2; Jeremiah 30:17; Psalm 103:2-3).

The Truth About Sickness — Isaiah 53

Sin and death came into the world through the disobedience of man (Romans 5:12), and one of the effects of sin and death is sickness and disease. Isaiah 53 is regarded as a redemptive chapter that outlines God’s plan for the redemption of mankind. The prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled in Jesus Christ (Matthew 8:16-17).

The Two-fold Redemption

The book of Isaiah 53 reveals two-fold redemption:

• Redemption from sickness and diseases—Isaiah 53:1-5

• Redemption from sin and death — Isaiah 53:6-12.

The following should be noted:

1. God has paid for our healing through the bruises and stripes laid upon Jesus. “By His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24)
2. God paid for our healing just as He paid for our sins. God knows you cannot and should not bear your sins as well as your sicknesses. “Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (pains).” (Isaiah 53:4)
3. God wants everyone who is sick to be healed just as He wants every sinner to be saved (2 Peter 3:9; 1 Timothy 2:3-4). The sacrifice for both sin and sickness has already been paid. New birth, healing, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost have all been provided for; what remains is to receive them by faith (Mark 11:24; John 1:12).
4. Make Isaiah 53:3-5 your daily confession against sicknesses and diseases. Be acquainted with healing scriptures and declare them continually until they become your natural response whenever sickness or disease attacks. (Also see 1 fPeter 2:24; Jeremiah 17:14; Psalm 107:20.)
5. Never allow fear to dominate. Maintain positive faith confessions in the face of sickness or disease. “For God has not given us the spirit of fear…” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Note: The symptoms of sickness may not leave your body instantly, but you must hold fast to your confession of faith without wavering (Hebrews 10:23). God’s Word says, “I am healed”; therefore, I declare that I am healed.

Give testimonies of the healing of other believers and continually testify of your own healing whenever sickness or disease arises (Revelation 12:11).

Prayer of Faith for Sickness and Diseases

HEAVENLY FATHER, I thank You that You have made known to me Your salvation and healing plan. I thank You that Christ has redeemed me from sickness, being made sick for me, and that by His stripes I was healed (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24).

I am so thankful that I no longer need to bear my own sickness any more than I need to bear my sins, because You have revealed Christ to me. I understand that all sickness, as well as sin, has the same evil source—Satan, the deceiver (John 10:10). I turn away from him with total resolution, and I welcome the presence, peace, life, and health of my Lord into my life.

Now, Father, I come according to Your Word, knowing that You always make Your Word good and fulfill Your promises (Numbers 23:19). You said, “I am the Lord that healeth thee” (Exodus 15:26). Thank You for the fact that when I believe the good news of what Jesus did on my behalf and receive Him into my heart, Satan has no more place in my life (Colossians 1:13-14).

I now take You at Your Word. You bore my sins and my diseases. Therefore, I am free from them. When You suffered my sicknesses by Your stripes, I was healed. I rebuke the enemy who has caused my suffering. I resist this oppression of the devil (James 4:7; Acts 10:38).

In the name of Jesus Christ, I command every spirit of infirmity to leave and every symptom to be destroyed, in Jesus’ name. Father, I thank You that You have heard my prayer and granted the answer. Hallelujah! I am healed in Jesus’ name. Amen.

How to Maintain Your Healing

1. Allow the devil to hear nothing from your lips except the confession of God’s Word. Also allow yourself to think nothing contrary to what God has promised in His Word (Philippians 4:8).
2. Remember that your faith can never rise higher than your words. The promises of God become real and living as we confess them (Hebrews 4:14; Romans 10:10).
3. You cannot speak contrary to God’s Word and expect to enjoy His blessings. Your words are the standard of your faith. They express what you truly believe (Matthew 12:34-37).
4. Anything other than “You shall recover” (Mark 16:18) is a lie from the devil. Treat it as such.
5. Stand on God’s Word, for God will surely make it good in your life (Jeremiah 1:12). Do as Abraham did—be strong in faith by looking to God’s promise (Romans 4:20-21). Keep the Word continually before your eyes (Proverbs 4:20-22).
6. Never consider symptoms that contradict God’s Word as grounds for doubting His promises, because it is written: “I will watch over My Word to perform it.” (Jeremiah 1:12)
7. Always give thanks to God for your healing and wholeness (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Never complain or murmur (Philippians 2:14).

Rightly Using the Creative Power of Words (Proverbs 18:21; Romans 10:8-10; 2 Corinthians 4:13)

There is an established law that governs the realm of the spirit. This law can be used for our good or otherwise. God has given man the ability to operate by this law. Ignorance of the law of electricity does not exempt anyone who violates it. In the same way, the words of our mouths are powerful. Jesus said, “Whosoever shall say unto this mountain… and shall not doubt in his heart… he shall have whatsoever he saith.” (Mark 11:23)

Life and death are governed by what we say (Proverbs 18:21). Faith speaks what it believes (2 Corinthians 4:13), and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10). Remember what you confess is what you possess. Positive, faith-filled confession produces life, health, and victory. Therefore, choose your words wisely today and continually declare the Word of God over your life.
