Jesus the Healer: Knowing How to Receive Healing for Our Bodies from The Lord
LESSON: Five
TOPIC: Cultivating Godly Culture of Faith Confession
TEXT: Mark 11:23-25, Hebrews 4:14, Proverbs 18:21
MEMORY TRACK:
In our last lesson, we learnt, by the grace of God, that believing in our heart should be followed by faith corresponding actions. One of the most important corresponding actions is confessing the word of God from the scripture. Obedience to the instruction of the Holy Ghost is also an important corresponding action that should follow our faith.
Cultivating Culture of Faith Confessions
Today, we are not just considering confession as a corresponding action but as a Godly Culture. Culture is a consistent way of thinking, believing, and living that is formed through repeated teaching and practice, until it becomes a person’s natural way of life. The Lord wants confession of faith to be our natural response to any situation and circumstance.
You can be Rich and Die Poor
There are some men that have a lot of money in banks but are either afraid of spending it or just derive pleasure in having so much and not spending it. Such will die poor because they would not withdraw the money to better their natural condition. Many believers are like these men. They are rich in faith but poor in confession, thereby making faith inactive in their life.
Confession of Faith
Confession is agreeing with God in the heart enough to say what God says, to speak God’s words, to use God’s expressions and declarations, to acknowledge God’s word.
As faith without works is dead, so also faith without confession is dead. The actual biblical faith speaks with the mouth what one believes in the heart. Words are the most powerful force on earth that brings invisible things to visibility. The earth was furnished by God speaking words of what He desired. So, in Genesis chapter 1 all through, God obeyed the law of confession and He reaped the fruit thereof. God’s kind of faith believes and speaks. Confession is the spirit of faith (2 Corinthians 4:13). Jesus in Mark 11:20-23 also obeyed the law of confession.
Jesus’ ultimate assignment was to die on the cross for the remission of our sin. He confessed this before His disciples several times until it was impossible for Him not to die on the cross. He stood before Pilate and witnessed a good confession. Our new birth experience was completed through confessing with the mouth what we believe in our hearts (Romans 10:9-10). So, our Christian faith began with believing and confessing. Christianity is the practice of confessing what we believed in our heart. In Hebrews 3:1 Jesus was appointed as the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.
Holding fast our Confession
Rev Kenneth E. Hagin of blessed memory said “holding fast to your confession of faith is one of the most significant and one of the most valuable teachings in the New Testament.” The word “holding fast” indicates faith can slip off our hand and how to hold it is by saying it. Holding faith by confession is an ultimate warfare we would fight to inherit the promises of God (1Tim 3:9; 1Tim 1:19).
How to hold fast our Faith confession
- Confessing the Word of God Day and Night with or without Contradictions (Joshua 1:8, Numbers 13:30, 14:6-9, 2 Kings 4:23,26, Romans 4:17-21). You must cultivate the habit of speaking faith in every situation even when the contradictions are overwhelming. The Israelite who went to spy the land developed a culture of murmuring and obeying their senses against the Lord so in due season what they are used to surfaced in the face of contradiction.
- Maintaining a Positive and Faith Thinking Heart by acknowledging all the promises of God that is in Christ Jesus which are yes and amen (Matt 12:34, 2 Cor.1:20Phil. 4:8). The culturing of our soul for faith confession begins with the heart. What is stored in the heart and believed is reflected in what we say.
Confessing Against Sicknesses
There is no way we can walk in health without maintaining consistent confession of God’s promises, personalizing them against sickness and diseases. Things to note regarding walking in health by confessions:
- God wants everyone sick to be healed as He wants every sinner to be saved. The sacrifice for both sin and sickness has been paid for. New birth, Healing, infilling of the holy ghost has been given and what remains is just to receive it.
- Make Isaiah 53:3-5 a daily confession day and night against sicknesses and diseases. Be acquainted with healing scriptures and quote them over and over until they become your natural response against sicknesses. (Also see 1 Peter 2:24).
- Never allow fear to dominate. Maintain positive confessions in the face of attacks of sickness or diseases.
- Consistently give testimony of other believers’ healing and also your healing when sickness or disease arises.
Rightly Using the Creative Power of Words (Proverbs 18:21, Romans 10:8–10, 2 Corinthians 4:13)
There is an ultimate law that governs the realm of the spirit. The law can be used for our good or otherwise. God gave man the ability to use this law. Ignorance of the law of electricity does not exonerate anyone that violates it. In the same vein, the words of our mouth are so powerful that Jesus said you will have whatever you say (Mark 11:23). The forces of life and death are governed by what we say. Positive and faith confession leads to life and health. Choose your words rightly today.
