Adam was made a little lower than the angels, our lord Jesus was made higher than the heavens, so Adam was so far from God as a living soul even before the fall (Hebrews 2:7, Hebrews 7:26). Regardless, Adam was still closer to God than many of us today because of the decadence of man; this is why salvation is a long process. This is why Jesus had to step in so that we can be reconciled back to God (1 Peter 3:18).
Salvation had always been God’s plan for man. God didn’t ordain it because of sin, but rather, It had always been His plan, even before sin came into the world. If we don’t understand what Salvation means, it can distort the plans and purposes of God for us. For us to understand our end, we have to go back and look at the beginning again.
(Genesis 1:26-28) “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. [27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. [28] And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
(Genesis 2:8-9) “And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. [9] And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”
We must understand that man was not made for the garden, the garden was made for man. If man was made for the garden, he would have had no hope after he was cast out of the garden. The same way a woman with child would have begun to make preparations for the child to come to the earth, God had made everything ready that Man would use before He eventually made Man. His plan for Man was that he would be made in His own image and likeness. (Titus 1:2)
The gap between Adam as a living soul, and God as an eternal being, is Salvation. Salvation is not just a destination, it’s a process. In fact, it’s a long process that requires patience. The labour that Adam was supposed to engage in was to eat from all the trees of the garden, before he would eat of the tree of Life, so that the tree would seal him. Adam was in the image of God but he was not yet like God. What Satan came to tempt him with, was that he would be as God. Satan cannot give what he doesn’t have, he cannot promise Adam that he would be like God and give him. The best Satan could promise Adam was that he would be “as God”. (Genesis 3:5)
The plan was never for Adam to take a short cut to Salvation. Salvation is a long process. Where Adam was as a living soul, and where God is, was very far. Even though Adam was far from where God was, he was closer than where many of us are. Every man is supposed to come to the Father; the Father is Salvation (John 14:6).
Due to the fall, Man lost the true essence of who God is, and they came up with different anecdotes for God: God my provider, God my healer, God my deliverer. The deliverance we refer to here is always from the hands of “evil people” we perceive are after our destiny. We believe all this because we have lost the true essence of who God is. God is Salvation – David the Psalmist was helped by God to see and understand this.
Psalm 68:18-20 (18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them. 19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. 20 He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death.) The only way that man can escape from death is to encounter God, our salvation, and He did this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the deliverer.
The only way that man can escape from death is to encounter the Lord of Salvation. This is one of the reasons for the coming of Jesus. The angel Gabriel instructed Joseph and Mary to name the child Jesus because he shall deliver His people from their sins. (Matt 1:21)
To deliver us from sin is not the full package of salvation. We are not just supposed to be delivered from sin, we are also supposed to overcome death. Again, the true essence of who God is, is Salvation. The best thing God can give a man, is to save his soul. (1Tim 1:2)
When God looks at us as a people, He thinks about how he can save our souls irrespective of our various needs. A sign that Adam needed salvation was that Satan was able to fall him. If Adam was truly saved, Satan would not have been able to tempt him (James 1:13). If he was saved, nothing would drive him from the garden. It meant that there was a ground to be covered that has not yet been covered and Satan came to cut it short.
(Ephesians 1:1-7) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: [2] Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. [3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: [4] According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: [5] Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, [6] To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. [7] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; [8] Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Salvation was a plan that was rooted in the heart of God to bring man to himself. There is no other plan that supersedes that plan. All the activities that we do; coming for meetings, listening to messages are to an end (Jeremiah 29:11). There is no greater hope and future than Salvation. It is so precious and sure that it is reserved in heaven (1 Peter 1:4), to show us that They mean business.
The journey we undertake to close the gap to becoming like God, is managed by the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the entity of the Godhead that is an administrator; a great administrator (John 16:13).
(Eph 1:13-14) [13] In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [14] Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
The promise of God is Eternal life (1 John 2:25). However, for us to receive it, we have to be sealed with the earnest (down payment) of the inheritance. The first down payment that was made was to put the Holy Ghost in our spirits. God reserved salvation for everyone but it is not everyone that will be saved. God’s will is for man to be saved but man also has his own will and that will of man, can stand as an hindrance from allowing the will of God to come to pass. That will also hinder the Holy Ghost from performing his administration.
The Holy Ghost is a key to our Salvation. He brings the revelation, helps us to fetch instructions and even to do them. He is the secret to entering into salvation. Those who will lay hold on Glory are sons and sons are only raised by the leading of the spirit. There is no other leading that can bring souls into sonship except this leading of the spirit (Rom 8:14)
There is a way that seems right to man and this way is what aligns well with the will of man. This way always leads to destruction (Prov 14:12). Without the leading of the spirit, no man can find his way to the father, (John 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. That “by me”, is the Holy Ghost. He is the administrator, and the Father has made Him the Overseer of our Salvation. The Holy Ghost can dwell in our spirit and yet, we are not being led by our spirits. This is because the soul is used to a way that seems right and it is difficult to break that soul from that way. The pathway to sonship is the way that doesn’t make sense to man.
The reason why we don’t trust the Holy Ghost is because we have confidence in the flesh. We believe the flesh more than the Holy Ghost. The flesh and the Spirit are always contrary to one another, but if we want to get to salvation, we need to be led in a way that is contrary to our flesh (Galatians 5:17). The only way to lay hold on salvation is to go against the dictates of the flesh (Romans 8:13) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. The only way to salvation is to follow the leading of the spirit.
The Holy Ghost brings us into salvation via his leadings (1 Peter 1:22) Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:. The obedience of truth that would bring us to salvation is through the Spirit. We have been given a major advantage and there is no reason why we should not sit on the throne. The will of man is what will always stand in the way of the leading of the spirit. God wants to bring us to the place where we can relinquish and die on our will. Jesus got to this point also, He said, He could not of his own self, or of his own will do nothing (John 5:30).
If we are a people that are constantly in tune with the spirit, we will land on the throne. Salvation is not hard, God has given it to every man, but the leading of the Spirit to obtain Salvation is what is hard for man. God in his heart has no restrictions, he wants to save every man so he made everything available for this to happen. It is the will of man that is standing in the way of God’s will in our lives. Jesus fought against His own will too. At the well of Samaria, He was hungry and weary, but God revealed His will by the spirit, He obeyed God against His will, and was able to be a source of living water to the woman in need.
What a real soul should look like should be undefiled. This is what we were predestinated for (Ephesians 1:4). There is no definition of “making it in life” outside of being without blame before the throne of God. A real soul should be redeemed from among men, should be a virgin, should have no guilt, should sing that new song upon that mountain (Revelations 14:5). This is where God wants to take every man to, but this can only be done by the leading of the Spirit. Salvation will be wrought as the lord is leading us.
