Meeting: Sunday School

Theme: Jesus the Healer. Knowing how to receive healing for our bodies from the Lord

Lesson 1: Origin of Sicknesses and Diseases; and God’s Desire and Provisions to Wholesomely Heal

Pastor David Kilanko

Satan does a lot of terrible things, but he never heals anybody. God is the one who heals (Exodus 15:26), and when he heals, He heals completely. That’s why Jesus did not heal the blind man and leave him like that when he saw men as trees. Jesus went further to fully heal him so he could see properly (Mark 8:24-25).

Matthew 10:1 “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease”

Jesus did not just send out His disciples to preach; He also gave them power, making provision for ALL manner of diseases, not just some. Healing is part of the gospel.

Mark 3:14-15 14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils…”

Isaiah 53:4-54 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed”

Jesus had done it in the past, but presently we are healed. That is why the scriptural reference says “we were healed” (1 Peter 2:24).

We are not just studying a topic; we are coming into the reality of a victory that we have in the spirit, that the Lord will have us harness in the natural. There will be deliverances. God still heals. God is still in the business of healing. God healed yesterday, He has already healed today, He will heal tomorrow, because God is a healer.

Where did sicknesses and diseases come from?

Sicknesses and diseases did not proceed from God. He doesn’t have it, and God will not give what he doesn’t have. Sicknesses and diseases are outworking of the fall. Sickness breaks down, limits and causes confusion in the systems of the body that ought to work in a certain way. God is not the author of confusion. If God doesn’t author confusion, He won’t author confusion for your body. We need to have it registered in our minds that sicknesses and diseases did not come from the Lord; that is why every appearance of it should be resisted by the Word of God. There’s no need to check whether it came from the Lord or not.

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned…”
The destination of sickness when it is not curbed is death, and death came by reason of a man’s disobedience. Sickness also came with it. It was not God who sent sickness into the earth.
Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”
God was supervising Jesus everywhere He went to ensure that sicknesses and diseases did not escape. Have it registered in your mind that God would not spare any sickness or disease.

Sometimes, the mind might have agreed with some things due to past experiences and believe that God chooses to heal some and leave some, or maybe that God doesn’t really heal again. No! God still heals! We need to come to a place where we hold it as believers that God is still in the business of healing. God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power to heal, so God is still with us, because Jesus is with us always, even unto the end of the world.

Deuteronomy 21:23 “His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance”

Sicknesses came because of a curse. Sicknesses operate the same way curses operate. They are both limitations. Sickness and curse have one thing in common: they are limiters. They limit either the body or the soul. Jesus hung on a tree to ensure that our land is not defiled. Jesus went to Calvary and was hanging there for our sake; this means that no curse can find expression in your life (Proverbs 26:2).

The word of righteousness is not only powerful for the healing of the soul, but there is also a great provision for the healing of our body. It takes greater faith and greater power to remove malice from your soul than to remove fever. If God can be particular to ensure that the soul is spotless, free from malice, anger, evil speaking, wrath, etc how much more your body? The God that can heal your soul, can He not heal your body? The word of righteousness has great provisions for the healing of your body. If we don’t know this, we will be cheated. Satan is happy that “we don’t know” or that he knows more than we do. As believers, we should know the word of God concerning us so that the Devil would not cheat us. Let us be in the spirit and not be sensual; let us know that God can and is willing to heal us.

What are sicknesses and diseases?

Sicknesses and diseases are by-products of sin and death in the body of man. If man never fell, man should never fall sick.

Deuteronomy 7:15 “And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee”

Egypt was a symbol of bondage, captivity, and the civilization of Satan. Note that the Bible refers to diseases as diseases of Egypt, meaning that it belongs to Egypt and should stay in Egypt and not in your body. In Genesis 1, notice that for everything God created, He saw that it was good. But after God created man in Genesis 1:31, God said everything was very good because he had created man. Even animals should not fall sick, if not because of the fall of man. “As by one man sin entered into the world” Romans 5:12. Where sin has entered, death will most definitely enter as well, and death comes with all its constituents. This limitation came upon every creation because the man whom God called very good fell.

Does God use Sicknesses and Diseases to Torture/Purify/Save His Children?

No!

Immediately you start praying for a believer, it triggers healing. The scriptures say that God is not the author of confusion. Sicknesses and diseases are confusions of the laws of the body. Many people have misconstrued the scripture in Hebrews 12. 6-76 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not…” Chastening and scourging have been misunderstood that God can flog us with whips of sickness. No natural father will use sickness to deal with his children. If natural fathers don’t deal with their children with sicknesses, God will not deal with His Children like that. God knows how to deal with malice inside of us, and He doesn’t use sickness; He arranges situations to deal with those soul infirmities. We need to disabuse from our mind that God uses sickness to deal with his children because it is a lie of the devil so that we can accept it. We should not give room to the devil, not even for a minute. God doesn’t use sickness because He doesn’t have it. Sicknesses and diseases are Satan’s tools.

Is God always willing to heal His Children?

God is always willing!

Matthew 8:1-88 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. 2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. 5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed”

The Israelites didn’t often come in contact with leprous people, but Jesus was not only willing, He also stretched forth His hand to show his extent of willingness. Jesus has said what He wants to say concerning our healing; we don’t need any visuals for Jesus to appear when we are sick to tell us that He wants to heal us. God is ever willing; He never turns away anyone who comes to Him in faith to be healed from sicknesses and diseases. Even in the case of the Syrophoenician woman, regardless of Jesus’ words, she wanted the healing more than the words and was not offended in Jesus.

Are prayers for healings being prayed over the saints an automatic guarantee of healing from the Lord?

Yes and No!

Yes, the healing anointing released by faith in the name of the Lord Jesus triggers healing virtue and power that can in turn bring healing to the person sicknesses and diseases has afflicted. For instance, turning on your generator is not an automatic guarantee that light will appear in the house. The circuit breaker and changeover switch have to be turned on. As soon as the generator is on, power is supplied. The generator has been triggered to make power available to the house. The same way prayers trigger this power of healing to be released, but we need to also turn on our Faith Switch.

No, because when prayers are made, there is a responsibility of the person being prayed for to believe. There is also a responsibility to keep the healing received. The reason for this is that not every healing is instantaneous. In John 4:51-5251 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. 52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. The second miracle that Jesus performed was this healing. When the man asked about the time that this happened, it was about the same time that Jesus spoke the word that he began to amend. This miracle wasn’t instantaneous. So we also need to understand how to keep the healing. When a person begins to amend, he must keep faith so that the amending will be complete.

Matthew 9:22 “But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. This was power at work. This woman had to turn on her Faith Switch around Jesus because it’s possible that there were people around Jesus who were sick but did not receive their healing.

Can sin (and all manner of sin and lifestyle) open the door to sicknesses and diseases?

Yes

Sicknesses and diseases are direct by-products of the entrance of sin and death into mankind. Sin is giving the right for Satan to do his thing, and the only thing that can stop him at that time is mercy, because sin gives Satan the legal right to afflict.

Gehazi, for instance, received sickness upon him because of sin. 2nd Kings 5:27 “The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow”

Leprosy had no business in Gehazi; it was sin that opened the door. This means that sicknesses and diseases can be in the atmosphere; they could just be waiting for an open door. Sicknesses and diseases are always wandering about; they cannot operate without a body. They find expression by gaining entrance into the body. This is why it is not good to live in sin (Romans 6:1).

Harmful habits are also a guarantee of sicknesses and diseases staying in the body. For instance, some people don’t like pedestrian bridges; they prefer to cross the express road rather than walk or jog on the bridge, which is good for their health, and crossing very busy expressways could be dangerous. Taking soda or fizzy drinks excessively can be very harmful to the body and can lead to sicknesses and diseases. This can even be tied to gluttony. We should learn how to say no to things like that. A sedentary lifestyle without exercise can be harmful to one’s health. For some of us, what we really need is sleep. We can shut down social media and news so that we can sleep and rest our bodies. Too much scrolling is not good for the eyes, too. These habits can create problems in the body. We need to be wise about our health. Some habits make room for sicknesses and diseases to have an inroad into the body.

Eating late is also unhealthy.

The responsibility to get healed has to be borne by both the minister/person praying for the sick and diseased, as well as the person being prayed for. The person being prayed for ought to bear more faith burden to receive and keep their healing. Both the person praying and the person being prayed for have to believe. We must not be so sensual that we believe symptoms more than what God has said.

Important emphasis

  • While some sicknesses and diseases are a result of habits and breaking of some natural laws, like not eating or sleeping well, other sicknesses and diseases are an outgrowth of walking the paths of sin and death.

  • That we engage in healthy habits and lifestyles doesn’t mean that we should anchor our hope on the things that we do and do not do. Our hope should still be in God.

  • Sicknesses and diseases, which are a product of breaking natural laws, can be cured by healthy habits or natural adjustments like exercise. But sicknesses and diseases, which are a product of disobedience, cannot be cured by lifestyle or natural approaches. Obesity, for instance, can be managed with diet and lifestyle adjustments, such as changing eating habits and other things. And to keep this healing, they must maintain a lifestyle. But sicknesses by a reason of unforgiveness, for instance, cannot be corrected by jogging, eating fruits strictly or any natural adjustment; rather, it can be cured by forgiving also. Mark 11:25 “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses”

  • Some spirits specifically carry, or impact/cause sicknesses and diseases. These can be dealt with by the healing anointing.

Conclusion

This series is meant for you to know that you can receive and keep your healing from the Lord. It is also meant to bring illuminations to know how we can be kept in our health. God, through His word and the sacrificial work of our Lord Jesus Christ, has shown that He wants us in health even as our souls prosper (3 John 1:2).

Summary

We are seeking eternal life; does not mean that you cannot work in divine health. It is possible to live in divine health; it’s not something that is far-fetched. It is possible that we don’t know what drugs are because we don’t need them.

The word of God is good medicine for the body. Psalm 107:20 “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions”. We can wake up and read the Word of God, declaring it over the body. Take the word of God as a pill, morning, afternoon and evening. Keep seeing the person who has written the word, and your healing and health will appear.

If you have not built faith for smaller issues, you would struggle to have faith for bigger things. God’s principles give health. Treat God’s word like medicine.

Sickness is not your identity; Jesus is your identity. Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians 6:19). Don’t live like an ordinary Christian; you should be able to take authority over your body, because your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. It is not the dumping ground for the devil or any evil spirit.
