Theme: Spiritual Growth: Understanding The Whats and Hows of Growing Up Unto God’s Life in our Souls
Topic: Learning To Fight/Wrestle Evil Spirits Through The Good Fight Of Faith Unto Change Of Our Nature
Minister: Pastor David Kilanko
(Ephesians 6:12) — “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The reason why Apostle Paul stated that we wrestle not against flesh and blood is that these spirits will always make it seem like the issue is flesh and blood. Evil spirits encourage us to continue in wrong natures like anger, bitterness, etc, and then blame others for it. We blame it on external forces or pressure, claiming it’s the way we were spoken to. But no, nobody can make you angry; it’s only because you have anger inside of you.
The way we wield power is dependent on what resides within us. Power allows you to manifest what is within you. Evil spirits are behind wrong natures. We need to see how evil spirits can be wrestled down as we fight the good fight of faith, so that our nature can change.
We didn’t just arrive at having evil natures overnight or by ourselves without the input, leadings,, and guidance of evil spirits, for we were all led. When a baby is given birth to, that baby comes with a clean slate. The first leading comes from the parents and the people around him or her; that child only replicates what he sees his parents do and what people around him do. Many times, when we carry out wrong natures, we validate a wrong life that exists in the spirit. What weakens the nature of evil spirits is disagreeing with actions that can be identified with their nature. Everything that became a nature formed in us was achieved by leading.
(1 Corinthians 12:2) — “Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.”
Nations of men for thousands of years have been led by Satan and his cohorts, until well-defined “anti-god/ungodly/unholy natures” were framed and formed in man’s soul (mind and heart).
Every time we exhibit a wrong nature, we validate a wrong life that exists in the spirit. Everyone whose spirit is regenerated can’t be possessed by evil spirits, unlike those with an unregenerated spirit, but they can be oppressed. All it takes for a believer to overcome an evil spirit is to disagree with evil spirits, for them to lose their grip on such a believer. Following the leading of the spirit rescues us out of every wrong leading, because every wrong nature we exhibit or perpetuate was imbibed by leading.
Even though Adam and Eve sinned by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, to a great extent, they didn’t allow sin to lead them beyond what it had already done. If sin had trained them, they would be offended at God, but they were not. Their souls were not tampered with by sin. Before Cain killed Abel, we see how they both went ahead to offer the fruits of their labours to God. They must have been able to do this by observing their parents.
Cain allowed sin to rule over him, and he left the presence of God. Many times, when sin is using or ruling over a person, it takes the deliverance of God to come out of it. Anything that will make a man leave the presence of God is leading. If all that we are hearing is knowledge and precepts, it may not leave any impression on our souls. What will lead to transformation is that we are led (Rom. 8:14). For souls to be trained, formed, or captured, men must be led.
Where we are as a human race is because we have greatly yielded and aligned with the leading and dealings of evil spirits. Many times, the leadings of these spirits are transferred by things that don’t look seemingly harmful.
There is a spirit behind every wrong nature that trains men to exhibit it. These are strongholds that have made man bound by leading. We must then obey instructions that come from the ministrations of the word so that we can be led out of it.
(1 Peter 2:25) — “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
(Psalm 119:176)— I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments. The lost one is found by giving him instructions on how to return.
There will be no change of nature in our souls without a war with evil spirits who have been keepers, managers, overseers, and benefactors of such evil natures. For you to break free from a wrong nature, you have to war with that spirit behind it because it’s a constant warfare. Our constant obedience to evil spirits makes them get stronger by the day.
We must be sensitive people because Satan uses every scenario to wage war against us; no situation is ordinary or innocent. Satan wants to perpetuate evil through us, even if we had good intentions in the first place. We must understand that we are in constant warfare. We must fight the good fight of faith. Evil spirits will not sit by and watch their work for many years just go away without putting up a fight. Evil spirits are strategic, so we must also understand that no season is innocent.
In every season, we must understand that we can’t rely on our strength. Obedience is not easy; it takes a lot of planning. Even obeying evil spirits takes a lot of planning and scheming. So we must fight to obey! We must fight; if we don’t fight, we end up succumbing to warfare.
Tongues and Interpretation
The battle ground of this warfare is in our heart,
We need to take authority and stand aright in the place of our hearts.
It’s not about what we do outwardly but we must win the warfare of the heart,
The battlefield is in the soul, but there is a victory in your spirit,
We must access and harness the victory that is already in your spirit,
For your spirit is seated in high places; higher places than these spirits that are trying to subjugate you,
We must war in the place of our soul, that is the battlefield, that is the area where we win conquest. For
Your inward man needs to break the heart of wicked spirits,
You need to bring them to an open shame,
For that victory has been wrought in your spirit by your fore runner,
Somebody disgraced him and you can do it also,
In your heart, fight, fight not to take a wrong thought that will bring offence,
Fight to make sure that you don’t give room to the adversary,
Give him no place or space, not even for a minute,
Do not allow him, resist him,
You must fight,
For your heart is the door to enter into true you,
You must fight to ensure that victory is brought into your heart.

(Luke 11:21-22)— “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.” Some evil spirits have confidence and are not worried because they know the things that easily beset us, and they are investing in it. But we can disappoint them and break their hearts and weaken them. It’s warfare. We must take authority especially in the place of our hearts. Thoughts will come. But understand that when a root of bitterness springs up from you successfully, it won’t only defile you, but it will defile many. So we must fight because of our hearts and that of our brethren. Our atmospheres should always be susceptible to the Holy Ghost’s interference; we must fight not to carry wrong heavens.
We must speak against wrong nature when fighting. (2 Cor. 4:13) — “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;”
When we believe, our mouth must also move, because the power of life and death is in the tongue. Satan wants us to speak the wrong things, he wants us to speak unbelief. Speaking brings about validation, so in the place of fighting warfare, we must watch our tongue.
We also should not agree with our flesh or feelings when we are fighting warfare. There is nothing Satan does that is for our advantage, so even when we are fighting warfare, we should not agree with our emotions or feelings. A believer is not emotionally led; he is spirit-led, word-led, mature brethren-led.
We should also always give thanks for the change of nature by faith, even when these natures are staring us in the face. Satan wants us to admit the obvious. Thanksgiving is a powerful and potent weapon.
We must give ourselves to constant feeding. Our escape from nature is in feeding. (Psalm 23:2-3) — “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” After we have eaten of the green pastures, and drank from the still waters, we will be led in the path of righteousness, and our souls will be restored. So even when it looks like we still have wrong natures inside of us, if we subject ourselves to constant feeding, we will change. Don’t stop feeding, because inside all of those meals are the natures that God wants to use to replace the wrong natures inside of us.
As believers, our victory is guaranteed by a life of obedience to the Spirit of God.

The essence of nature is to enhance our relationships with one another (Eph. 6). When evil spirits come, they come to cause division and problems, and it shows in our relationship with one another. This is why we have to give attention to what the Lord is saying to us. There is a sense we feel we are at a particular pedigree but we need to wrestle because we have been led. We must have an understanding of how evil spirits have led man for years. Even our tribes and cultures are not innocent; most of them were given by evil spirits, and this is why most of them are against faith. We then receive commandments that are against the values and culture we hold dear. We must be led by the spirit to live right and have a good home; nature formation must happen. For us to escape evil spirits, God has to lead us contrary to what evil spirits want us to do.
We need to be careful of what we feed on. We must also be careful of social media and the advice we take from there. Don’t take instructions from what people say, look at what the scriptures say, speak to spiritual authority. We are meant to transform by the things we are hearing, we should not just hear them and be full of knowledge. We should hear with the mind to do and use them by following the leading of the Spirit. It might be painful and not look logical but we should find grace to yield as this is what will change us.
