Theme: Jesus the Healer: Knowing How to Receive Healing from the Lord

Topic: How to get Faith for your healing

(Romans 10:17) – So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

According to Andrew Wommack, Faith is a noun, i.e a name of a person, animal, place, or thing. Faith is a thing, and it cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Faith is a noun; believing is a verb; believing is something that you do; an action word. Faith is now, and it comes by hearing the word of God. It’s something that you can hold; it is tangible. Just as a noun is said to be something tangible, so is faith also a tangible substance. It is something that we can hold. If you are holding faith, people around you will know.

(Hebrews 11:1) – Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is the substance; that which you are holding on to. It has not appeared; it doesn’t look like you have been healed in the body, but because you have received a substance that comes only by hearing the word of God, and you have held firmly unto it, this eventually becomes the premise of your faith. If you don’t hold unto the word, there will be no substance formed in you for you to hold unto. The mistake we many times make is that we keep confessing and declaring without having a substance to hold on to; which word are you really holding onto?

We need to be more intentional with this teaching. We should put it into practice in our lives, hold God, and desire the substance that makes up the faith needed to receive from Him; whether healing or whatever we might be trusting Him for. Whatever the situation might be, either headache or menstrual pain, you can take authority over it and stand by the word of God.

You need the substance of faith and hold on to the tangibility for your faith to be active. You can write out scriptures, stay on the word, and trust the Lord to bring the substance of what you are trusting Him for. You have a sickness? Write it out, tell the Lord how you have been struggling with the sickness. We must endeavour to put into practice these things. Because we are hearing the words of everlasting life does not mean we will not exercise ourselves in faith; we should be able to take authority concerning situations. We must be constantly reminded that our journey is unto God, and that Satan will try to do everything to distract us and afflict us; and one of the things he does is to bring sickness in the body. If you can’t exercise faith towards healing, how then will you exercise faith towards the saving of your soul? You must start from the foundation.

Faith is something that comes by the rhema word of God. Rhema is the word spoken directly to you by the Lord; it’s personal to you. For example, when trusting the Lord for a spouse, the Lord can give you a word concerning it; it’s an instruction, a specific word given to a specific person. Even concerning our healing, we must receive rhema from the Lord.

There was a particular woman Papa Hagin mentioned who had been trusting God for healing and the word that came to her required her to praise the Lord regardless of her state, and she stood up and started dancing unending, if someone with a similar sickness had seen her and started doing what she was doing, that person might not get healed from that sickness because that word was a personal instruction given to her. She got a rhema and was acting on it. Someone else might see her and not think right of what she was doing, but that was what the Lord required of her at that time and for that particular ailment to be dealt with. Even as you are trusting the Lord for healing concerning any sickness or diseases, trust the Lord to get a rhema; a personalized instruction from the Lord that can address that situation.

You can trust the Lord to heal your headache. A sister who was diagnosed with cancer of the breast, she had a lump in her breast that had left visible pigmentation around that area, but she decided to turn on her faith switch. She wrote out different scriptures and pasted them around. Every morning she kept looking at it and consuming it until the Lord came to meet her and gave her a rhema, a word about that situation. That word was like a fuel that helped her disagree with every word that wasn’t in alignment with God’s word. After holding on to the word, in a matter of time, the pain vanished, and the colour distortion left. Even when someone says you are sick, you tell them you are not sick because you have seen something, and you are holding on to a substance. Many times fear comes to defeat the faith that is in us.

Pastor Tope gave an example; imagine a container with water partly filling the bottle, the aspect containing water can be ascribed as the amount of faith a believer at new birth has, while the empty aspect can represent the amount of unbelief such a person has, and then the container represents the heart.

The moment you give your life to Christ, there is a measure of faith you possess, because faith is what quickens our spirit; we didn’t do anything; rather, it was a gift imputed to us. Many times, before healing is administered, we ask if you are born again because there is a measure of faith that we have.

(Matthew 17:20) – And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. As little as a mustard seed is, if you have it, there are some mountains you will be able to move. We must receive the tangibility of these things. Satan has lied to us severally so that when we hear faith, and we hear that someone has been healed of cancer, we easily forget these testimonies and continue to respond to life as though we lack faith. We must raise a consciousness about this life because we have been given authority over all these things.

If you are born again and your spirit has been quickened, you have a measure of faith and you can build that faith by staying on the word; spend time listening to messages concerning faith, write out scriptures concerning faith, and listen to testimonies concerning people’s miracles and healings, it will keep lifting your faith and as you stay on it, the Lord will come and meet you there and bring a rhema word concerning that situation. Then you can say you have faith, and even if your Pastor says you shouldn’t do what faith has instructed you to do, you can stand your ground knowing fully whom you have believed and your persuasion about His word given to you.

Pastor Tope once shared about how he got healed from tuberculosis just by receiving a rhema word that says “it shall come to pass”. On hearing this word, he was strengthened to do the opposite of what the sickness subjected him to doing, and in a matter of time, tuberculosis vanished.

We must not give in to unbelief even though it might be present, just like Peter who desired to walk on water.

(Matt.14:28-31) – And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

This is our situation many times: the Lord comes with a word that says we are healed, and we receive the word; the rhema has come through the substance that has been formed in us, and then we have it. But when something appears, doubt and fear begin to give in; but when you are filled with faith, you are like a mad man; people think you are insane, and yes, you are insane because you are walking against something beyond what anybody can see. Peter saw the boisterous wind and was afraid. Many times the Lord gives us His word and even assurance, but the enemy comes and says You will die and not live; can’t you see that person? The person had this same sickness and died; he happened to even be more spiritual than you, but it’s a lie. Hold on to that word; choose faith rather than fear.

Andrew Wommack said that when you possess faith, fear will knock at the door, but don’t open the door for fear; open the door for faith. Fan the flame of faith.

We don’t have to be sick on this earth. I won’t die of cancer. As much as we are admonished on what to eat and what not to eat, we must know where to draw the line and act in faith. There is something more potent, which is the word of God, and it’s living and abiding.

(Isaiah 53:1-5 (NIV) – “Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

There was nothing to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that would make us desire Him. Jesus was familiar with pain; it was His normal lifestyle. Everything we think we are suffering, Jesus has taken them, and He has brought peace to us. If you are in Christ Jesus, there is an assurance that you should have, knowing that He has taken it all upon Himself. He has taken that grief, pain, sickness, disease; He has put them upon Himself by His stripes; so every stripe you see upon Jesus shows all that He has taken up for you. Jesus has gone through it for you. It’s a finished work; all you need to do is to receive what He has done and walk by it. As much as you quote scriptures, also trust the Lord for the formation of substance in you.

It is good to know and note the differences that exist between Faith, Doubt and Unbelief so that we will properly deal with the subject of how to get faith for healing.

Faith (for healing): Faith is the direct impartation of conviction and assurances into the heart of a saint, through the rhema/revealed Word of God as a substance for healing. Faith is always of the heart. Faith is by rhema; it’s not just by confession or declaration. If you receive substance, they will ask you to do some things, but you won’t do them because you have gotten something greater than what you are told to do, like taking steps from the place of fear instilled by a physician.

Doubt (as to whether God can/wants to heal): Doubt is made apparent and obvious by the absence and ignorance of God’s rhema/revealed Word on particular health conditions/sickness/diseases. Doubt can either be little or great, like the container we earlier talked about; imagine the measure to which the bottle is empty is the measure to which you can doubt. So because you have water (faith) to a particular level, there are some things that you can normally trust the Lord for because you have faith up to that level required. This is why we need to fan the flames of our faith by staying on God’s word. There are certain sicknesses we feel we can easily trust the Lord for, but there are some diseases that are called terminal that we feel look impossible, but our ability to exercise faith for what seemingly appears to be a smaller situation enables us to confront bigger situations like terminal ailments. Doubt is to the measure in which we don’t have faith, or the revealed word/rhema. But you can stay and actually trust the Lord.

Papa Hagin was plagued with an infirmity that kept him bedridden in his teenage years, but he kept confessing, “I am healed”, and then the Lord met with him and told him that if truly he was healed, he would get up from his bed. You can have faith and still doubt. Peradventure anyone has a terminal disease, we can trust the Lord together to see the end of that infirmity.

Doubt can be in/of the mind and heart. Faith, if well saturated in the heart, can guarantee healing for the body though there be doubt in the mind. This occurs in cases where the Holy Spirit, through our new creation spirit, reveals rhema light for specific healings to our hearts independent of our mind. That way, faith passes to our heart directly. In such scenarios, our hearts munch on or meditate on such words, and when such words are acted upon, healings are guaranteed.

Faith being in the heart does not guarantee healing. But when we prayerfully meditate on the word with our minds and the Holy Spirit sheds the light of the word in our minds, doubt greatly depletes in our minds, and light descends to our hearts from where faith power is triggered.

Unbelief (as regards being healed) – (Mark 6:1-6). Unbelief is a by-product of having known or seen the truth to the point of getting to the heart, and disagreeing with it, by not acting on it. For there to be unbelief, the truth must be revealed to the heart by rhema (illuminations of the Word by the Holy Spirit or our born-again, new-creation spirit). Faith not acted upon is what Unbelief is!

At the point where we begin to doubt and begin to see the need to go through all the sessions or procedures administered by the doctor, many times they can be unending. At any point in time that you go to the hospital, especially for a checkup, there will always be medication to administer. So it’s left for you to choose either the word of God or medicines.

It is good to note the following;

Faith being in the heart (which is a great victory) still does not guarantee healing(s) or miracles for one’s ill health conditions. One still has to act on the word (corresponding action to the faith) for the power of God to be released for healing. It is at the point of generating a corresponding action that belief is being demonstrated. Faith in the heart + Corresponding actions = believe.

We mentioned earlier that to believe is an action word. You can’t say that you have believed and gotten rhema and you are still behaving like someone who hasn’t heard anything. If truly you believe you are healed, you are meant to put action to your healing.

You need to receive rhema; you are trusting the Lord for a situation, a sickness that has lingered for too long. Hold on to God’s word. “ Lord, open my eyes; I want to see this thing, I want to hold on to it, to that thing that you have spoken in my heart.”

Many times we have faith, but we don’t receive our healing because we don’t act upon it; we allow it to take the best part of us. You must receive the rhema word for faith to be built; if you don’t move yourself to taking action without any substance to back it up. Go ahead and take the medication, but as you take it, tell God you want a rhema word that will bring your healing.

At times, when you have rhema, the symptoms are still there, but you have a word you are holding on to. Fear can come to pull down that rhema, but keep confessing the word until you see the breakthrough. Faith will work in the heart with doubt and fear in your head; for this to be, the Holy Spirit has to speak to our heart through our recreated human spirit. This is why we must know how to listen to the Holy Spirit through our spirit.

We can have a journal where we write out scriptures and keep confessing, paste it on the wall and keep meditating.

Fasting and prayer are a great necessity to connect with the rhema word that will generate faith in the heart (Matt. 17:14-21).

ROUND OFF BY PASTOR SHILE SHODIPO

Faith for healing is possible and present amidst us. The fact that you are not experiencing it does not mean it is not real. Just like if you don’t have a degree doesn’t mean some other person doesn’t have it. Also, just like you don’t have the capacity to do a thing does not mean someone else does not have it; you just have to exercise yourself in it.

It is possible for everyone to be healed or even be sick at all, if you have the substance. What we should aim at is getting substance; once we have the substance, we should act upon it. Unbelief is faith that is not acted upon. Unbelief and doubt are always present where there is faith. The healing of the body is like a door that wants to be accessed but has warfare around it to prevent access. We must not allow unbelief or doubt to dominate our environments. When we have faith and act on it, it shows that we believe what we have received.

We should not let anyone doubt what we have received. There will always be doubting Thomases around us; there will always be things we can see that make it seem all impossible. But substance is like grace for healing; we just need to exercise ourselves in it.
