THEME:      THE HOLY GHOST AND THE THINGS OF THE SPIRIT

LESSON:          SIX

TOPIC:       The Blessings of Subjective Leading of the Spirit

TEXT:              Deuteronomy 8:1-6, Mathew 16:21-24

MEMORY TRACK:

We learnt in our last lesson that truth is that which God connect to His creature. Both man and angel hold truth and the expected response of any creature to the revelation of truth is worship. Satan, who is a fallen angel, held the truth of God as an angel but became the first angel who would turn the truth of God into a lie; first in himself and taught some of the other angels below him to do likewise. Man also fell into this lie and became captive of a lie. Satan, through deception, subjectively led all mankind by lies unto death. God uses truth to deliver us from this captivity by the principle of hope, promises, pains and pleasure. He delivers our souls from the captivity of lies through subjective leading of the Spirit. The subjective leading of the Spirit is the manifestation of God’s mercy to us. The subjective leading of the spirit is the manifestation of God’s mercy to us.

Satan Loves the Things of Man (Mathew 16:21-24, John 2:24-25, Philippians 2:19-21

Satan loves the things of man and teaches man how to keep those things, because they are actually his things. The things of man are what men love and live for.

All that Satan does is to teach men how those things should be kept because that is his footstool to access man. These things are tied to our natural life expressions here, our future, security, joy, fulfilment, destiny etc.

The greatest invention of satan in man is self-life. We are sad when our things suffer loss, and we are happy when these things prosper. These diverse responses are as a result of blindness of the eyes because satan uses blindness to keep us. So subjective leading of the Spirit is the means by which God removes the things of man in us and install His things. The usual response as men during these periods is weeping and sorrow.

Subjective Leading and Objective Leading Intertwined (Genesis 12:1-2)

God uses both subjective leading and objective leading to save man. Man is very much at home with objective leading. But God knows it adds little or no value to the man’s life. Objective leading is often initiated by man but God, also, through it bring believers into a season of salvation for greater purpose. For instance, God used the barrenness of Sarah to save both Sarah and her husband.

Abraham needed a child and a nation; God needed someone He can make covenant with to carry His seed called Christ. The needs of Abraham became the bait God used to meet His own need. Subjective leading is not the physical distance covered but the movement and reconfiguration of the soul from being earthly bound entities to become heavenly bound.

Blessings of Subjective Leading

  1. Change of hope and destinations (Deuteronomy 26:4-5, Ephesians 1:17, 4:17): Abraham was a miserable Assyrian ready to perish. He was redeemed from perishing by subjective leading
  2. Forgiveness of sins and deliverance from Satan (Colossians 1:9-14
  3. Entrance into the kingdom (Act 14:22
  4. Change of nature. One of the greatest gain in subject leading is change of nature) (Isaiah 40:31; Isaiah 11:4-9)
  5. Eternal status (Mathew 19:27-29, John 12:26): One of the things we will lose through subjective leading of the spirit is our status, reputation worldly honour in exchange for eternal status (Phil 3:7-8).

Biblical Principles that Guide Prosperity of Subjective Leading

  1. Willingness and Obedience (Isaiah 1:19): It is rightly believed that subjective leading is initiated by God to save the soul of the believer being subjected unto the way of the Lord. God promised his Spirit will no longer strive with men in Gen 6:3 therefore we must be willing and obedient. One of the greatest help we can receive during this period is consistent revelation of hope to the soul, so that we may cooperate with the Lord (Romans 15:13).
  2. Subjecting yourself in subjective leading of the spirit (Hebrews 12:19): In subjective leading, God creates the external environment spiritually, brings the soul into the state of hope and believing by opening of the eyes etc., but we still have a role of subjecting our souls under God even after we have been subjected (1Peter 5:6). The training will take longer and might not yield any fruit if we don’t in turn subject ourselves.
  3. Love the Lord and spiritual authorities (Exodus 14:11-12,17:3): Satan attack the love of God and the love for those who God set over us during the season of subjective leading of the spirit. You must fight to love the Lord and his servants because the season is a time of provocation. To do otherwise in this season will lead to offense and bitterness.
  4. Love your brethren: Satan will also accuse the Your brethren.
  5. Love the state God has conditioned you and be at peace (2 Cor. 10:12): One of the greatest temptations in the session of subjective leading is comparison. Love the process, be at home with yourself and be humble so that we can prosper in what God is doing in you.
