Sunday School Theme: How to be Led by the Spirit of God

Minister: Pastor Laide

(Ecclesiastes 12:1) Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.”

Every believer should start early in hearing the Holy Spirit, this is a preparation for the days of war. We’re meant to prepare for war in the days of peace, so that when war comes, you would have been prepared. Don’t learn how to fight during war. Start exercising yourself in spiritual activities now like praying and fasting, so you don’t just start running to God when calamity comes.

The intent of God for us is not just to give us victory after a troubled situation but for us to come to Him. This is why you should love reading your bible so you can know God. You should love fellowshipping with the Holy Ghost because He teaches you the truth about God.

(Ephesians 4:30)And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” How do you not grieve a person when you don’t even know what their preference is? The Holy Ghost can be grieved because He has emotions too – He can feel hurt. If you are not exercised in the Holy Ghost, your sensitivity would be dull and you won’t be able to discern when you’ve grieved Him. You would grieve the Holy Ghost if you are not sensitive to His leading/directions.

A lot of us are too encumbered with the issues of this world that we don’t have time hear from the Holy Ghost. The leading of the Spirit is a very tangible resource at our disposal for the purpose of knowing God. Don’t be cut off from the things of the Spirit, always consult the Holy Spirit. Satan working day and night to ensure that we are too oblivious of the Spirit.

The essence of submission is not for anyone to control your spirit or to lord over spirit. We’re admonished to submit so we can be clearly led. The Lord wants to lead every single person by the spirit, but because we are in a community, we need to submit to one another for clarity. Sometimes, you can misinterpret certain impressions or nudging in your spirit, another time, your leading can be wrong or your soul can even interpret leadings according to its old nature. To test all this, submission is needed – you need to submit your leadings. Submission does not mean your spirit is being ruled. In fact, submitting your leading is divine wisdom. In an instance where haste prevents you from submitting to brethren, you should check that leaving, because God is not hasty. God is not defined by time, neither is He anxious of time – He created time. So allow time and rest because time has a way of defining and refining some things. Instead of making decisions hastily, we must learn to show fidelity to the Holy Ghost. We must learn how to stay with the Spirit. In essence, submission doesn’t overrule your spirit, it keeps you in the place of safety. Also, the only thing that can and should come out of submission is persuasion, it is never about ruling.

Submission is persuading you to see a greater light for your safety, for your wellbeing.

For emphasis sake, fleecing is not leading. Fleece is casting a lot. The Old Testament men fleeced because they didn’t have the Holy Ghost leading them from within like we the New testament men. The leading of the Spirit is no longer circumstantial if fleece is involved. Fleece is subject to the manipulation of spirits.

(John 3:1-4)“1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”

Learn to judge from your Spirit.

(Acts 16:15-18)15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. 16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.”
